Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month – meet Roman Ruiz
The theme of this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month is ‘Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together’, which resonates deeply with Roman Ruiz, Cold Stowage Project Engineer on our JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) contract, where he and his team support science experimentation aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
“Neither of my parents attended college but pushed for me to achieve a higher education. I feel that I am a pioneer for my family in the sense that I relocated by myself and hope to shape the future for my family and spaceflight by doing my best and learning as much as I can. I also encourage our younger generations at school career days to have a goal and to work towards that,” explains Roman.
According to Roman, he appreciates that Hispanic heritage is a melting pot of people who, no matter the ethnicity, come together to collaborate for success. “It makes me proud that I am Hispanic and a capable engineer and I try to celebrate my heritage every day by living a beautiful life with my family.”
