Barrios Kicks Off its 2024 Summer Internship Program!

We welcome our Barrios Summer 2024 Interns! Our sessions have started, and everything is in full swing.

The Barrios Internship Program is an immersive program that offers our interns opportunities for career development and learning, while working on projects that help advance human spaceflight programs as they live Barrios’ core values. At the same time, lectures will expand their understanding of space exploration, failure analysis, how to work as a team in a complex environment, and systems engineering.

As they learn and build lasting relationships, fun is also on the agenda. They’ll tour through the Johnson Space Center, participate in the 2nd Annual Barrios Intern 5k, which promotes Barrios’ commitment to employee health and well-being, and experience our dedication to community service.

Twelve amazing interns have joined us from all around the country. Olukunle Akinleye is a returning intern from last summer and recently received his degree from Purdue University. Also joining us from Purdue this summer are Ella Richardson and Ajay Bestrapalli. We have a few firsts this summer with Julianna Lucas from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Pranav Garikapati from Rutgers University.

Our returning Patti Grace Smith Fellowship intern, Nicholas Olibrice from the University of New Hampshire joins our new 2024 Patti Grace Smith Fellowship intern, Brianna Olalekan, who recently graduated from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette. Nicole Nageli comes to Barrios from the University of Colorado – Boulder. And then we welcome our local interns – Benjamin Chafin from Texas A&M University, Ethan Collins from the University of Houston, and both Adrian Garcia and Sreerag Pillai from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

We welcome you and hope you have the most ‘out of this world’ intern experience!
